In 1884, Karl Elsener started the cutlery factory in the small village of Ibach, Switzerland where he pioneered the creation of a pocket knife for soldiers in the Swiss Army. In 1897 he created a light and elegant Officers Knife that would later become known as the Victorinox Original Swiss Army Knife.
